Is the EBC Trek Return Back by Helicopter right for you?

The Everest Base Camp Trek Return by Helicopter is a fantastic adventure that includes an exhilarating mountain flight to Lukla, several days of trekking in the Everest region with adequate acclimatization, a magnificent view of Mount Everest from the base camp and Kala Patthar, and a fun helicopter ride from Gorekshep to Kathmandu.

The trek is for anyone who is pressed for time or wants to cut back on the number of days they spend hiking. Due to the fact that you will fly from Gorekshep to Lukla in a helicopter instead of hiking back, it's also a fantastic opportunity for those who aren't in the best physical form, elderly people, and kids.

Let us remind you that the EBC Trek return back by helicopter is not a good option for a budget traveler because the cost of the pricey helicopter journey makes it more expensive than the conventional 14 Days Ebc Trek.

How does the itinerary for the trek to EBC and Return Back by Helicopter make for the best experience?

Our Everest Base Camp Trek Return by Helicopter takes 9 days in total to complete excluding your arrival and departure days to and from Nepal. The trip starts with a short flight to Lukla. You then start the trek by following the classic EBC trekking trail. You have a rest day in Namche Bazaar to adapt to the altitude. You then continue the trek to Everest base camp through Tengboche, Dingboche, Lobuche, and finally at Gorekshep, with an acclimatization day at Dingboche. You trek to Everest Base Camp from Gorekshep and return to Gorekshep to stay overnight for the last night's stay in the mountain.

The next morning, you trek to Kalapathar viewpoint for a great sunrise view over Everest and the neighboring mountain peaks. You return to Gorekshep to have a hot breakfast and hike down to Lobuche, and take a Helicopter flight directly to Kathmandu from Lobuche to conclude the EBC trek. The Everest Base Camp Trek Return Back by Helicopter is available throughout the year, so contact us for up-to-date costs and booking. Also, let us know if the given itinerary is not suitable. We are happy to tailor-make and customize the trek for you according to your requirement.

Since the package is bound to a tight schedule, we request you to have at least 1 or 2 days extra at hand. This way, we can arrange your permits as swiftly as possible. On top of it, the weather in the Himalayas is quite unpredictable. Thus, there might be some possibilities of flight delays. Having a few days with yourself would help you keep yourself on track or maybe roam around the charismatic Kathmandu city.

Useful Information
Good to know before you travel

Here are some of the frequently asked questions that may cross your mind:

How difficult is trekking in the Everest Region?

The trek to the base camp has been ranked as a moderately difficult trek. But don't worry; the travel is doable! To begin, the Everest Base Camp journey does not require any prior climbing experience, and there are no tough climbing stages. You should be able to trek the course with determination and a basic degree of fitness. We've seen old and young, people of all shapes and sizes complete the trek while smiling!

When is the best time to go on an Everest Base Camp trek with Helicopter Return?

The trek can be done fairly all times a year. However, March to May (spring) and September to November (autumn) are believed to be the best months for the trek along with the helicopter return! Autumn is ideal for travelers because it is neither too hot nor too cold. The trekkers ascending the base camp have improved visibility because the sky is less foggy.

In that situation, trekkers have held the winter season in high regard. Not because the weather is cloudy, but because the entire region is blanketed with snow. Though it's chilly at higher elevations, the trails aren't as slippery as they are during Monsoon. Everest has so much more to offer in the winter, including wildlife and greenery. The fog and mist, on the other hand, can obscure the view of the mountains and valleys.

What are the essential things you need to carry during the trek?

These are the list of things you might need during your helicopter trek to the base camp.

Essential Items:

  • The base layers (Moisture-wicking short sleeve and long sleeve shirt, woven shirt)
  • Pants (Synthetic and fleece pants, hiking shorts and waterproof trekking pants)
  • Lightweight waterproof jacket and down jacket
  • Hiking boots or trekking shoes that are strong
  • Rain gear and trekking poles

Other Items:

  • Small flashlight or head torch
  • Medical Kit (Blisters plaster, antibiotics, aspirin)
  • Sunglasses and Sunscreen
  • Personal hygiene products (toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, soap, hand sanitiser, wet wipes)
  • Repellent for insects
  • Camera battery replacements

How likely is the possibility of altitude sickness?

Above 12-14,000 feet, most people develop minor Mountain Sickness symptoms ranging from headaches to sleep apnea to loss of appetite. While these symptoms aren’t caused for alarm, they should be kept an eye on. If your symptoms get more severe, you have two choices:

  • Descend to a lower elevation and resume your journey after your symptoms have subsided.
  • Enter the Gamow bag.

What is the accommodation like?

There are several options on the EBC trail to select from according to your needs and budget. From five-star hotels in Namche to inexpensive lodging in Tengboche or Dingboche. Also, keep in mind that lodging in high-altitude areas such as Pheriche or Gorakshep will be limited.

Teahouse treks are becoming increasingly popular in Nepal these days. Staying in teahouses while on the EBC trek has the extra benefit of providing comfortable lodging with a homey vibe!

The quality and cost of the tea houses along the trail vary based on the facilities they offer. On the lower elevations, some tea shops have fully furnished rooms with electricity, western toilets, Wi-Fi, and, best of all, a hot shower. Some tea houses, particularly at higher elevations, provide relatively modest services.

What kind of food is available?

As the terrain is isolated and all food must be carried up to the numerous communities on foot, most meals are made up of non-perishable items such as cereals, rice, and grains. Dal, a prepared lentil soup, is the most typical accompaniment to the basic cereal. This, along with steamed rice, is Nepal's most famous dish, Dal bhat, which can be found at any tea house.

Most tea houses have meat on their menus, although we recommend avoiding animal products in general, especially at higher altitudes. Because all of the meat must be carried up from the lower slopes of the mountain by foot or yak, freshness cannot be assured.

How to prepare your body for the trek in the Everest Region?

Hiking is the single most effective strategy to prepare for your base camp trek. Find some nearby trails, go for a stroll through town, or simply go for a walk. Become accustomed to long walks. Discover where your body has difficulty and how far you can push yourself. Once you've gotten used to pushing through the first wave of agony, you'll be shocked at how far you can go.

Trekking is a natural activity—the human body excels at it! You shouldn't require much-focused strength training, but it's a good complement and can come in handy if you can't perform practice hikes. Each day, you'll spend many hours trekking and increasing height. Do some early strength training to help your legs prepare.

Walking, jogging, swimming, and cycling are examples of cardio workouts that assist your body to learn to perform harder with less oxygen. This will allow you to maintain your breath and concentrate when hiking at a high altitude, allowing you to enjoy the journey much more. Increase the difficulty and duration of your workouts over time, and remember why you're doing it when you're weary and want to quit. You want to be able to take in the scenery rather than struggle to catch your breath.

How to contact the outside world during trekking in the Everest Region?

A prepaid Data SIM Card can be purchased if you want to stay connected while on the route. For the Everest region, Ncell and NTC provide high-speed 3G internet services. SIM cards are inexpensive and widely accessible in Kathmandu. Aside from that, the teahouses along the EBC path offer internet access for a cost of roughly US$ 3- US$ 5 per hour.

What sort of permits are required for your EBC trek?

You require two permits if you want to start your trek from Lukla. Foreigners pay NRP 3,000 per person for a Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit, whereas members of SAARC countries pay NRP 1,500 per person. NRP 100 per person is charged to Nepalese. Per trekker, the Khumbu Rural Municipality Entrance Permit is NRP 2,000. Khumbu Rural Municipality Entrance Permit is the same for every trekker regardless of their nationality.
