Drive from Pokhara to Nayapul (1,070 m/3,510 ft) and Trek to Ulleri (2050m/6725ft)/ 31.4km/ 2 hrs drive/ 4-5 hrs trek

Our journey today begins with a ride from Pokhara to the small, bustling town of Nayapul. This is where you officially enter the Annapurna Conservation Area. The initial section from Nayapul to Birethanti is relatively flat and easy, a perfect warm-up for your body.

Eventually, the real test of the Annapurna Base Camp trek begins after the village of Tikhedhunga, which is where the infamous, near-vertical climb to Ulleri starts. Prepare yourself to walk the 3,200+ stone steps, a continuous staircase that climbs steeply up the hillside. It's a nonstop, muscle-burning ascent that takes 2 to 3 hours.

Finally, you reach the gentle path that leads into Ulleri, a traditional Magar village, with numerous stone-built houses. At the teahouse, you will unpack your belongings and rest with a

jaw-dropping panorama of the snowy peaks of Annapurna South (7,219m) and Hiunchuli (6,441m) dominating the skyline.

Note: Today is one of the most challenging hikes of the entire trek! Don't rush the steps. Remember the mantra, 'Slow and steady.' Take short, frequent breaks every 10 minutes or so to catch your breath, and don't forget to admire the view.

Day03

Trek from Ulleri to Ghorepani (2,840 m/9,317 ft)/ 10 km/ 5-6 hrs trek

The hike today is a complete change of pace from yesterday's grueling ascent. Today, you will be hiking on mostly flat landscapes with easy ascents and descents through dense oak and rhododendron forests. The initial section from Ulleri takes you to smaller settlements like Banthanti and Nagethanti. Moving on, you will have a break near a beautiful waterfall, where you can enjoy the serene surroundings.

After resting for a while, the hike continues for about 1.5 hours to Ghorepani, which means "Horse Water". It references its historical role as a resting spot for traders and their animals. The scenic Magar village is perched on a high ridge offering spectacular views of the Dhaulagiri range and the Annapurna South peak. In the evening, you can explore the Magar Museum, which provides insights into the local indigenous culture and heritage.

Note: Make sure your headlamp batteries are fully charged this evening. We’ll be waking up before dawn (around 4:30 AM) to make the final ascent to Poon Hill for the sunrise.

Day04

Hike to Poonhill (3210m) and trek to Tadapani (2,630 m/8,629 ft) / 14 km/ 6-7 hrs trek

Your day begins early, usually between 4:30 AM and 5:00 AM, with an early-morning hike to Poon Hill. We suggest you wear your warmest layers and grab your headlamps for a 45 to 60-minute uphill climb from Ghorepani to the summit of Poon Hill. Moving ahead, you will be walking on stone-paved paths and taking frequent breaks to catch your breath.

Once you reach the top, you feel a profound sense of pure achievement. The sun rises above the horizon, illuminating the Himalayan peaks with vibrant reds and yellows. From here, you will have a 360-degree panoramic view of Mt. Dhaulagiri (8,167m) and Annapurna I (8,091m), the iconic Machhapuchhre (Fishtail Mountain), Annapurna South, and Hiunchuli.

After taking pictures and videos, we started our descent back to Ghorepani for breakfast before heading towards Tadapani. The path initially climbs to a ridge near Deurali (2,960m), offering another beautiful, wide-angle view of the mountains. Keep in mind that the trail here is rugged and often slippery, especially after recent rain.

The trek from Ghorepani to Tadapani takes you through peaceful rhododendron forests, passing settlements like Gurung Hill, Deurali, and Banthanti. Finally, the trail levels out and winds around the hillside before a short, final uphill walk brings you to Tadapani. The village offers dramatic, close-up views of Annapurna South and Machhapuchhre that you've never seen before.

Note: Use trekking poles for the ascent to Poonhill, and the descent to Tadapani is steep. This prevents the feeling of exhaustion and joint pain the next morning.

Day05

Trek from Tadapani to Chhomrong (2,170 m/7,119 ft)/ 10 km/ 4-5 hrs trek

After leaving the Tadapani village, you will hike a downhill trail and descend almost 500 meters through dense, cool rhododendron and bamboo forest. The trail is often a series of uneven stone steps that drop sharply toward the Kimrong Khola. Along the way, you will pass by the quiet village of Chuile and the Ghurjung village.

After crossing the river via a sturdy suspension bridge, the trail changes dramatically. You now face a continuous, moderate climb that lasts for about 1.5 to 2 hours, bringing you up the opposite hillside to the magnificent village of Chhomrong.

The village is one of the largest and most developed settlements on this route, built on a ridge that splits the Modi Khola valley, giving it absolutely mesmerizing views. You will have your ACAP permits registered here tomorrow at a checkpoint before entering deeper in the Annapurna Sanctuary. You will spend the rest of the evening at a teahouse, soaking in an unparalleled, up-close view of Annapurna South.

Day06

Trek from Chhomrong to Himalaya (2,920 m/9,578 ft)/ 12 km/ 6-7 hrs trek

The hike begins with a seemingly endless stone staircase to the Chhomrong Khola. This descent requires careful footing to protect your knees and ankles from getting injured. Eventually, you will cross a suspension bridge and start the climb to Sinuwa (2,360m). The trails ahead pass through forests of oak, then rhododendron, and finally, into thick, damp bamboo groves that give the village of Bamboo (2,310m) its name.

In the afternoon, after a brief stop at Dovan (2,500m), you will have to hike for around 1.5 to 2 hours to reach Himalaya. You'll pass several beautiful, cascading waterfalls, following the river deep into the heart of the Annapurna Sanctuary. The day ends at a teahouse in the Himalaya, where you will rest early to help your body recover, and prepare for the final push toward Machhapuchhre Base Camp (MBC) and Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) tomorrow.

Note: Only drink boiled water, or treated/filtered water, and get into the habit of drinking continuously, not just when you feel thirsty.

Day07

Trek from Himalaya to Annapurna Base Camp (4,130 m/13,550 ft)/ 12 km/ 6-7 hrs trek

After breakfast at the teahouse in the Himalayas, you will begin the 3-hour trek to Machhapuchhre Base Camp (3,700m). As you ascend higher, the environment changes dramatically here, and the dense forest gives way to a wide, open valley carved by the glacier. You will be walking on steep, rocky trails mostly covered in snow. The trail follows the glacial moraine along the Modi Khola, leading towards MBC, where we will have lunch.

Eventually, after the needed rest, we set our course for the two-hour trek from Machhapuchhre Base Camp to Annapurna Base Camp. The ascent is slow and gradual, and as you trek, you are greeted by the incredible views of Annapurna South and Hiunchuli peaks. Once at ABC, the experience is out of this world, a moment to remember, and memories that will last a lifetime. We recommend drinking plenty of hot garlic soup and staying warm tonight to help your body adjust to the higher altitude.

Note: Walk at a slow and steady pace and listen to your body. Don't try to keep up with anyone else. At this altitude, oxygen is significantly low, and you may feel symptoms like a dull headache or slight nausea. Please do not ignore them. If you feel unwell, notify our guide, who will advise you to rest or descend to lower elevations.

Day08

Trekking from Annapurna Base Camp to Bamboo (2,630 m/8,530 ft)/ 15 km/ 5-6 hrs trek

The hike from ABC to Bamboo is entirely downhill, and you will retrace the same path, passing through Machhapuchhre Base Camp (MBC), Deurali, and Himalaya. But you will have a change in perspective on the world-view around you, as it is an entirely new experience. The trail passes through settlements like Himalaya and Dovan and enters the lush, dense forest zone, thick with oak and the iconic bamboo groves.

Note: The rapid descent can press your toes hard against your boots, leading to blisters. It is advised to use blister plasters to prevent unwanted injuries.

Day09

Trekking from Bambo to Jhinu Danda (1,780 m/5,840 ft)/ 14 km/ 6-7 hours, and drive to Pokhara/ 27.3km/ 4-5 hrs trek/ 1.5-2 hours drive.

The trail from Bamboo winds through Sinuwa and eventually brings you back to the familiar, immense stone staircase of Chhomrong. This might have been impossible at the beginning of the trek, but now it's manageable because you have now become well-versed in hiking steep terrain. Eventually, after climbing out of the Modi Khola gorge and passing through the central part of Chhomrong, you will follow a gentler path that descends toward the river, leading you toward Jhinu Danda.

The descent from Chhomrong to Jhinu Danda (1,780m) is steep and challenging on the knees, so do not rush; walk steadily. After arriving at the village, you will walk for 20 minutes to reach the stone pools, which capture the naturally heated, mineral-rich water along the banks of the Modi Khola River. Soaking your tired muscles after days of hiking provides a sensory experience of deep, calming relief and satisfaction.

After the relaxing session, we reach the pickup point where a pre-arranged jeep will drive us back to Pokhara. Finally, back in Lake City, you can look forward to a comfortable hotel room and a hearty meal before ending the night and giving yourself a well-deserved rest.

As we will be starting our trek from a relatively lower altitude and gradually ascending to a higher altitude every day, there's no need for an acclimatization day during our 10 Days ABC trek. The maximum altitude we reach is only 4100 m which is quite low compared to EBC. In case you feel uneasy while trekking, you can inform the guide, and they will decide what's best for you and the group.

No, you won't find any ATMs along the route of the ABC 10 days trek. The last place to find an ATM is Pokhara, so make sure you withdraw enough cash from either Kathmandu or Pokhara.

Being in close proximity to the grand Annapurna will make you forget all the pain you had while ascending through steep and rugged Himalayan terrain. The mountain vistas you witness from Annapurna Base Camp (4130 m) standing tall right in front of you give you a feeling of euphoria. Despite the cold temperature, the whole atmosphere is warm, with fellow trekkers sharing their trekking stories in teahouses. Unlike EBC, you can actually spend the night at Annapurna Base Camp, and the dreamy sunrise in the morning is something to look forward to.

Panoramic mountain vistas along the trail

Long before you reach Annapurna Base Camp, you'll start seeing mountains smiling at you from a distance. The mountains appear closer as you trek further. In addition to the Annapurna range, you'll see other mountains arranged in a panorama. Our 10 days trek to the Annapurna Base Camp provides you with stunning and mind-blowing vistas of a number of Himalayan peaks, including the Annapurna Range (8,091 m), Mt. Dhaulagiri (8,167 m), Mt. Machhapuchhre (6,993 m), Mt. Nilgiri (7,061 m), Mt. Hiunchuli (6,441 m), Mt. Gangapurna (7,455 m), and so on.

Annapurna Conservation Area and its serenity

During our 10 Days Annapurna Base Camp Trek, we hike through Annapurna Conservation Area, which is home to a variety of flora and fauna. The dense forests of Rhododendrons, oak, pine, etc., make for a pleasant hike. The bamboo forest at certain places is a unique feature of the ABC trail. If you're trekking in spring, you'll find the wildflower blooms decorating the woods in vivid colors. You'll enjoy the melodious songs of the birds residing in those forests, with the occasional spotting of wild animals.

Natural hot spring of Jhinu Danda

The 10 Days Annapurna Base Camp trekking route passes by Jhinu Danda hot water spring on the way up. It is believed that spring water has a special healing quality for relieving aches and pains. It also has a spiritual value, and it is claimed that taking a hot spring bath cleanses the spirit. So, you can take a quick bath in the hot spring to give a kick start to your ABC journey at a small entry fee.

Ghandruk and its rich Gurung culture

No doubt, the Annapurna region is rich in natural beauty. What makes the region even more beautiful is the small ethnic villages living in harmony. One such significant village is Ghandruk. It has gained the fame of model Gurung village in the area. Most people living in the village are of Gurung ethnicity and have preserved their culture and traditions to this date. There's a museum where you can learn about their culture and rent Gurung costumes to click some photos. You'll spend a night at Ghandruk and try some local cuisines.

Scenic flight to the city of lakes

Our 10 Days Annapurna Base Camp Trek includes a quick two-way 15-20 minutes flight between Kathmandu and Pokhara. Although it is a really short flight, you'll get to enjoy the aerial view of Kathmandu and Pokhara and the places in between. If the weather permits, you'll see some great aerial views of some mountain ranges.

Maximum Altitude

Our 10 days Annapurna Base Camp trek takes us through the Annapurna Conservation Area, which is located at a height between 790 meters and 8091 meters at the peak of Annapurna I. The highest point we reach during the hike, though, is 4130 meters at Annapurna Base Camp itself.

Weather Condition

The Annapurna Base Camp observes seasonal variations in its weather. The snow-capped Himalayan region doesn't become too hot, even in the summer. Even though it can get up to 25°C (77°F) during the day, the temperature drops as low as -20°C (-4°F) at night. Considering the entire trekking expedition, the lower hiking spots are significantly warmer than the base camp. With no clouds or snowfall throughout the day, spring is a warm season for 10 days Annapurna Base Camp trek.

Trek Difficulty

The 10 days Annapurna Base Camp trek is categorized as moderately difficult. The hiking route comprises a fair share of tough and moderate paths. Therefore, everyone who is physically fit can participate in this excursion even without any prior experience. Additionally, if you're going for more than a week-long trek, we advise doing some physical preparation exercises like running, swimming, and hiking. You should also be mentally prepared for the chances of altitude sickness as you're hiking in the Himalayas, which take you above 4000 meters.

Transportation

You will travel by both air and roadways during this 10-day ABC trek. First, you take a flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara and travel by road to Nayapul, which is the starting point of the trek. On your way back, you take the same road trip from Nayapul to Pokhara airport and fly to Kathmandu.

Accommodation

Accommodations on the trail will be at a mountain lodge or tea house, like most Nepalese trekking routes. These modest hotel-like establishments are maintained by locals and offer basic meals and rooms with two to five beds, depending on the size of the room. Therefore, you might have to share a room with other hikers during the busiest seasons. The beds, sheets, pillows, and blankets are all comfortable, and the rooms are warm.

You should feel at ease using the shared restrooms with an Asian squat-style toilet as it is the only option in the remote location of Annapurna Base Camp. Although the restroom will have water, we advise bringing your own toiletries.

However, lodging will be provided in a 3-star hotel in Kathmandu, with breakfast included.

Meals

As lunch and dinner in Kathmandu are not part of our package, you are free to eat whatever you wish while staying in Kathmandu. Thamel is known for its cafes, restaurants, bars, pubs, and clubs. You'll get food from multiple cuisines here. Feel free to try out some.

However, there won't be a wide selection on the menu at the tea houses along the journey. Daal Bhat, a typical Nepali dish composed of white rice, lentil soup, seasonal vegetables, salad, and pickles, will be served to you for dinner and, maybe, lunch. It is high in protein and carbohydrates and will give you enough energy for the hike. Breakfast typically consists of tea, coffee, boiled eggs, curries, and Tibetan bread. You can also sample different regional cuisines, including noodles and momo.

To prevent altitude sickness, ensure you stay hydrated by sipping hot water and ginger lemon tea.

Drinking Water

The rising amount of plastic litter on the path discourages the use of plastic-bottled water. So, take a thermos flask with you and fill it up with hot water in the tea house you stay. You can purify your water with water purification tablets if you feel the need to. For further safety, get a bottle with a built-in filtration system and fill it with fresh water on the way.

Network Connectivity

Let's not expect excellent phone network coverage and high-speed WiFi in the remote Annapurna region. If you need to communicate with the outer world, you might get WiFi with spotty coverage at the tea houses along the way by paying some extra charge. Or you can get a 4G SIM card of either NTC or NCell phone networks to use mobile data wherever the connection allows.

Guides and Potters

A guide and potters are included in our 10 days Annapurna Base Camp trek package. Two hikers are paired with one potter, who carries a combined 20–24 kg from the two hikers. You can avoid paying the potter's salary by carrying the luggage yourself if you are an experienced hiker and are comfortable carrying your own rucksack in the rugged terrain of the Annapurna region for more than a week.

Because things can quickly get out of hand in the Himalayas, we highly advise that you hike with a knowledgeable trekking guide. Hiring a guide can be helpful in an emergency as well as for navigating the journey and interacting with the local people. We provide skilled registered trekking guides who're good at speaking English.

Permits required

You need two permits for the 10 Days Annapurna Base Camp Trek. Those are:

  • Trekkers Information Management System (TIMS) Card
  • Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) Entry Permit

We will arrange these permits for you before you start your walk. The price of our package also includes the purchase of both permits.
