Lobuche East and Island Peak Expedition with Gokyo offers travelers a perfect blend of Himalayan adventure and spiritual immersion. The travel package includes climbing two of the best climbing peaks in Nepal, Lobuche East and the Island Peak. These mountains are over 6,000m and are considered excellent climbing mountains for adventurers. It is ideal for enthusiasts who want to test their skills before approaching a technically tricky mountain climb. The expedition is best for travelers who have prior trekking and mountaineering experience. The 22 days Lobuche and Island Peak expedition takes you to the heart of the Khumbu region. During this remarkable adventure, you will be hiking on the route to Mount Everest and spending the night at the EBC. Our approach to submitting these peaks begins from Namche Bazaar and takes you to the serene Gokyo lakes of the Khumbu region. After exploring the sacred lakes, we ascend Gokyo Ri, cross Cho La Pass, and trek to Dzongla. Here, we will have a rest day and conduct pre-climbing training for the expedition. In the coming days, we will summit Lobuche East and hike to Everest Base Camp. Then, we trek to Kala Paathar and climb Island Peak on day 17 of the expedition package. The climb to both mountains does not require technical climbing ability, but you must have prior knowledge, fitness, and awareness to complete the summit.

Expedition Grades of the Lobuche East and Island Peak

The alpine grading system classifies the Lobuche East and Island Peak Expedition with Gokyo as PD. This means that the journey encompasses elements of sub-technical climbing and exposed glaciers. Several sections of steep terrain are also physically demanding. Regardless, with proper planning and training, summiting these peaks is a challenging but rewarding experience.

Technical Aspect of the Climb

The Island Peak and Lobuche East are moderately difficult climbs on the alpine grading scale. These two are among the best practice peaks for mountaineering beginners. The route includes basic rock scrambling, ice wall climbing, and steel ladder glacier crossings.

Lobuche East Expedition

The climb to the Lobuche East Peak begins from the high camp with a steep ascent on rocky trails. You will have to make your way through rock slabs and make your way up using fixed ropes and crampons. Then, you must create a 45 to 50-degree angle inclination to the summit using ascenders, crampons, ice axes, and ropes.

Island Peak Expedition

From high camp, travelers will encounter rocky trails that lead to a vast glacier. Crossing this section requires expert navigation and awareness from climbers. Moving ahead, you should make a steep 300m ascent over the headwall. The climb on the wall starts with a 45-degree angle inclination and reaches up to 60+ degrees. Some mountaineers have experienced the climb to be almost almost vertical.
