My name is Jeffrey Johnson. I was born in Evanston Wyoming, a small town in the Rocky Mountains. As a child my father took me camping as much as possible. As an adult I’ve made camping and hiking one of my top priorities. I’ve spent time in the redwoods of northern California, wandered much of the Rockies and explored the open deserts of southern Utah and north Arizona.
In 2023 I had to opportunity to visit Nepal. I had wanted to see the Himalayas ever since I saw the film Seven Years In Tibet and thought “Oh my god, now those are mountains!!!” Nepal is an amazing country. The land is staggeringly beautiful and the people have a genuine kindness that can be almost disorienting. I flew to Nepal with nothing but a hotel reservation and a return flight home 70 days later. I was nervous and a little overwhelmed landing in Kathmandu by myself but from being offered rides from the airport to being guided up Island Peak near Mt. Everest the people of Nepal always made me feel safe and welcome.
This is especially true for the crew at Outfitter Nepal. Between trekking and tourism I spent everyday with someone from their team. My trekking guide Bhala and I spent nearly 50 days together, with only a short break between treks. When I left Kathmandu to return home I truly felt I was saying goodbye to longtime friends. My trip to Nepal is the most memorable experience of my life.
