The trail then ascends through beautiful villages and dense forests of pine and rhododendrons. While walking in the allies of the villages, you can learn about the culture and traditions of the local Sherpa people. You will also come across several communities, such as Rai, Tamang, Limbi, and Chettri. Likewise, the prayer wheel, stupas, and prayer flags along the way make the journey even more impressive.

Why is Pikey Peak Trek so exceptional in 2024/2025?

Our exciting trek package takes us to the summit of Pikey Peak at an altitude of 4,065m providing you with glorious panoramic views of the surrounding mountain range. The Pikey Peak trek route is ideal for travelers of age groups with basic fitness levels. This expedition is a perfect opportunity to explore Nepal's rich cultural heritage and natural wonders.

Pikey Peak Trek Route

The comfortable Pikey Peak trek starts at a leisurely pace from Kathmandu. On the first day, you will enjoy a private jeep drive to Dham, the starting point. From here, the hike on foot along the gentle terrains kicks off. Your first encounter with the mountain ranges will begin on the trek from Dhap to Jhapre, a vantage point to watch Numbur Himal. Moving ahead, the hike from Jhapre to Pikey Pease Base Camp is filled with several gompas, stupas, and old yak houses along the way. For the first few days, you will walk mostly on forested terrains and grassy ridges until the landscapes become icy and snow-covered. During Spring, the forests alongside the trail are dyed red and pink with blossoming rhododendrons. After resting in the Base Camp on day three, you will make the ascent to Pikey Peak to witness the majestic sunrise over the snow-capped mountains. After the exciting exploration, you will hike to Jase Bhanjyang and arrive at Junbesi on day four. On this day, you will walk for approximately 4-5 hours and explore ancient religious sites like the Thibten Choeling Monastery. After spending the night in Junbesi, you will resume the hike the next day and make a steep ascent to Phaplu. You can enjoy the majestic panorama of Mt. Everest, Mt. Makalu, Mt. Chamlang, etc. The final destination of the Pikey Peak trek will be Phaplu, where we will spend the night and drive back to Kathmandu on the seventh day.

Best Time to Start Pikey Peak

As with most treks in Nepal, hiking to Pikey Peak is a remarkable experience during Spring and Autumn. You must remember that although the trek is doable throughout the year, trekking in Monsoon is not recommended. During this time of the year, the route is a slipper, and the weather conditions are unpredictable, so that it might rain every day. Regardless, some travelers into botany and wildlife might be keen to travel as the trail will bloom with plants and flowers. On the other hand, trekking during winter imposes challenges as well. The weather temperature drops significantly, and most trails are covered in snow.

Autumn Season (September, October, November)

Autumn lasts from September to November and is regarded as the best time to hike in the high-altitude Himalayan regions of Nepal. After the heavy Monsoon, the air and the sky are clear, offering crystal-clear views of the surrounding landscape. Moreover, the weather conditions are stable, with less rainfall and snowfall.

Spring Season ( March to May)

Spring is another best time to commence the Pikey Peak Trek. The season lasts from March to April, and the weather is cool and chilly as you ascend to the higher elevation. The weather conditions are ideal for trekking, and beautiful plants and flowers surround the trail. However, it would help if you remember that these best times of the year also have some minor drawbacks. During this time of the year, many travelers visit Nepal, so the trails and teahouses are crowded with them. Regardless, we will pre-book the accommodation for Pikey Peak to avoid any hassle, allowing you to enjoy the trek experience and make connections along the way.

Pikey Peak Trek Difficulty

The difficulty level of the Pikey Peak Trek is rated as moderately challenging as compared to other trek in the region. However, even though the trek route is off-beaten, some parts of the trail are leveled and easy to hike. Additionally, exceptionally few steep inclines would push you to your limits. To begin this exciting adventure, you don't need any special training and can enjoy the trek with basic fitness exercises. During this journey, you will be hiking for an average of 5-6 hours for 6 to 7 days. So, you won't put much strain on your body, as you will have adequate time to rest and replenish your tired body.

Pikey Peak Trek – Physical Requirements

For travelers who want to undertake the Pikey Peak Trek, you must be mentally and physically prepared for the exciting journey ahead. So, if you plan to conquer the peak, we recommend you spend appropriate time and energy preparing yourself. We suggest you indulge in jogging, swimming, cycling, and other exercises to build your stamina and core muscles.

Pike Peak Trek Cost For 2024/2025

In general, the average cost of the Pikey Peak trek cost to you USD 750. Remember that the total amount will increase according to your preference and that additional services will be provided during the trek. On the other hand, the trek cost will also decrease significantly if you travel in a group. We highly suggest you join one. If you don’t have one, we can arrange it for you. This will enhance the overall trek experience and help you build new connections and create memories that last a lifetime.

Pikey Peak Alternative Trek

Accommodations in the Pikey Peak Trek

In the course of the Pikey Peak trek, you will lodge in tea houses, many of which are located in remote locations. Staying in this establishment gives you a look into the traditional and monastic aspects of the communities. The trek tea houses feature twin-sharing rooms with a standard or attached bathroom and a communal dining room. Besides, if you want to stay on a single basis, we can arrange that for you, but it will cost you an additional fee. However, we encourage you to share the rooms with fellow trekkers, as it will reduce the overall cost, and you'll also establish a meaningful connection with them. While the facilities and amenities in the tea houses are scarce in high-altitude regions, they are balanced by the tremendous hospitality and support of the Sherpa people. Also, remember that we will be spending the night in a fully stocked tent at the Island Peak Base Camp.

Foods Available in the Pikey Peak Trek

Food and beverages in the Pikey Peak Trek are served in local lodges and tea houses. You will receive a full-board meal covering breakfast, lunch, and dinner. You can choose the food items you want from the tea houses. A conservation project or a National park project fixes the prices for these items. The foods you will consume throughout the trek are hygienic and are made from locally grown organic ingredients. For breakfast, you will have pancakes, oatmeal, muesli, eggs, toast, Tibetan bread, etc. The menu items for lunch and dinner are similar and usually consist of items like dal bhat, pizza, momo, chowmein, noodles, ramen, mashed potatoes, macaroni, and pasta. Other beverages included milk, black tea, milk tea, coffee, ginger tea, lemon tea, and mint tea.

Altitude Sickness & Acclimatization

The exciting Pikey Peak trek journey takes you to the high Everest mountain regions. The highest point of the trek is at an elevation of 4,065 meters. So, the low oxygen level will make it significantly difficult for you to ascend the steep terrains. To avoid the early signs of the illness, you need to hike at a gradual pace and drink a lot of water to hydrate yourself adequately. The symptoms of AMS include headache, dizziness, shortness of breath, nausea, and fatigue. If you experience any of these, inform the trek guide or leader. You will then be prescribed Diamox and soups to help your body adapt to the change in oxygen levels. On the other hand, if the conditions worsen, it is best to return to a lower elevation to get immediate medical attention. Besides, an emergency helicopter evacuation can also be arranged and covered by your insurance for your medical care.

Travel Insurance

The Pikey Peak Trek takes you to an elevation of 4,000 m, with a slight risk of injury and altitude sickness. During the hike in Nepal's rocky and Icy terrains, you might get injured or twist your ankle if you are not careful. Thus, we recommend you get travel insurance with trustworthy travel insurance before you start the trek. The insurance would then support your medical expenses and cover theft, accidents, cancellations, medical costs, and air ambulances. We suggest you ensure the insurance company includes and covers the price of the helicopter mountain rescue operation over 4,000 m.

Nepal Visa and Passport Requirement

To enter Nepal, most citizens of foreign countries can get a visa upon arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. You will need a passport valid for at least six months and two passport-size photos. The Nepal visa can be obtained at the airport at any border of Nepal. On the other hand, you can receive it from the Nepalese embassy in your home country after filling out an online form. You will be charged USD 25 for a stay of 15 days, USD 30 for a month, and USD 100 for three months, respectively. If you wish to stay longer, you can extend your visa to the Department of Immigration in Pokhara or Kathmandu.

Permit

To start the remarkable Pikey Peak Trek, you will need the following permits to access the region:

  • Gaurishankar Conservation Area Permit (GCAP) (USD 30 per person)
